One of the biggest announcements to come out of the MAX presentation today was that the previously discussed Harry Potter series is definitely happening and is being planned as a 10-year series. JK Rowling may be exec producing, but that still seems to be up in the air depending on how the internet reacts to it. The series is currently looking for a showrunner, but it feels like a job not a lot of people will actually want. While the Potter franchise is as popular as ever, its fan base is fanatical, and we expect them to be extremely critical of any changes from the source material. It could be even more brutal than working on Star Wars.

Here’s what Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, had to say about the search for a showrunner.

“We have been trying to be very close to the vest,” said Bloys. “We haven’t gone out to agencies. We have our own internal process where we’ve been thinking about people but we have not wanted to go out into the world. Now that the news is out there, we will start working with the Blair Partnership and we’ll start going out to the business.”

While it was originally stated that the show would cover one book of the franchise per season, it is now being reported that Harry Potter will run for ten seasons on Max.
