It’s been 17 years since Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy and The Golden Army hit theaters and six since the David Harbour-led reboot tried to kill the franchise. Now we are getting our first trailer for the newest iteration of Mike Mignola’s iconic comic book character in Hellboy: The Crooked Man. This time around, Jack Kesy will be donning the horns and the big hand in a story set in the 1950s.
There are a couple of things that are quickly evident from the first trailer. First, we are getting a skinnier, lankier version of Hellboy, similar to a look that Mignola has used many times in the comics. Secondly, this trailer is setting up audiences for a much more scaled-back production than any previous Hellboy film.
The new film is based on the 2008 comic by the same name. Here is a synopsis from the Hellboy Subreddit:
““Introduces parapsychologist Bobbie Jo Song, who is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD but must seek Hellboy’s help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.” This possibly explains where Bruttenholm fits into the story, as he will likely be the one she is delivering the spider to.”
From master storyteller, #Hellboy original creator: Mike Mignola and Brian Taylor, the twisted mind behind Crank, comes Hellboy: The Crooked Man based on the critically acclaimed graphic novel. Coming Soon.
