Can Marvel pull off a character that it has historically refused to bring to be big screen because of racial stereotypes? Looks like we are about to find out! When Ben Kingsley was first cast as a bad guy in Shane Black’s Iron man 3, it was rumored that he would be The Mandarin, but that rumor was quickly squashed.

Now it is being reported he will in fact be the bad guy in the film. It makes sense, considering that the film is being partially filmed in China. Also, the Mandarin’s ten rings were mentioned in the first Iron Man film.

Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says the sequel will return to that part of the story:

Metaphorically, we’re not going back to the cave there’s nothing like that, but we’ve always said let’s get Tony back to the cave, which is he’s stripped of everything, he’s backed up against a wall, and he’s gotta use his intelligence to get out of it.
