Now that Todd Phillips’ Joker has become the most profitable comic book movie of all time, Warner Bros wants to see if lightning can strike twice. A sequel to the Joaquin Phoenix starring film has just been officially greenlit. Some people could argue that a film like this should stand alone, but if there’s a following for a franchise, a studio will never resist the urge to milk it.
According to the report, Todd Phillips will return to both write and direct the sequel to the Joker, but he has also been given the green light to make another gritty DC origin story. It wasn’t specified as to whether that means the other character will appear in Joker 2, or if it will be a stand-alone film. At this rate, we won’t be surprised if a Todd Phillips Gritty DC pocket movie universe is announced before too long.
There is currently no word on when the second Joker film will hit the theaters.
