Once again, Latino Review has come through with the scoop on a major comic book movie. While last week was all about who will be joining the cast of X-Men: First Class – Days Of Future Past, and who is on the short list for the lead in Guardians of the Galaxy, we are now moving into a period of big time DC news. After all, we’ve got the trailer for Man of Steel hitting along with The Hobbit on the 12th of the month.
So, we all know that The Justice League is on the way into theaters in the summer of 2015, right along side Avengers 2, so they are really going to have to bring it. Now Latino Review is reporting that they know who the bad guy is for the film and if you don’t want to know, stop reading now.
The report, not extremely surprisingly is that Darkseid is up for the job of big bad in the film. This isn’t really the most surprising news, but it is interesting. I know they couldn’t go and have Starro as the big bad, there’s just something about a giant mind-controlling alien starfish that probably won’t connect with the main stream audiences.
What makes this interesting to me is that Thanos is going to have a pretty massive part to play in the upcoming Avengers 2 film. Jim Starlin created Thanos and has admitted several times that the character was heavily inspired by Darkseid.
How could this backfire for DC/ Warner Bros? Ever hear of a little film called John Carter? That film suffered (among other several reasons) from the fact that the book it was based off was the inspiration of most of modern movie sci-fi. By the time John Carter came out, the things that made it special made it seem like a copy of all the films that had copied it.
