The majority of movie news we’ll be hearing this week is going to be coming from Cinemacon in Vegas. The industry convention gives studios a chance to present their upcoming films to theater owners, so they can decide how to promote the movies and how many screens they want to give them on release.
Sony went first and one of the big bits of news we got is about the upcoming Spider-Verse film, Kraven The Hunter. The film’s lead, Aaron Taylor Johnson, announced to audiences that this would be the first Marvel film released by Sony to be Rated-R. This isn’t all that surprising, given the footage that they screened starts off with Kraven biting off someone’s nose.
The footage also gave attendees their first look at Russell Crowe as Kraven’s father, Sergei Kravinoff, as well as a major reveal that Kraven would be going up against a new adaptation of The Rhino in the film. While we’ve seen Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man portrayed by Academy Award winner Paul Giamatti, this new version will be played by Alessandro Nivola. It also looks like we’ll be trading in the previous iteration’s mech suit for more of a biological transformation.
