With a game as cinematic as Dead Island, it only makes sense that someone would want to make a movie about it. The popular zombie killing game has already sold over two million copies for the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
Now Lionsgate has snatched up rights after a long struggle over who actually owned them and now there will finally be a version of the game where I don’t get my ass kicked quite so royally.
Here’s what Lionsgate’s Joe Drake told Deadline:
“Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck. This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate: it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.”
