Locked Down isn’t the first movie released with a COVID-19 setting, but it is definitely the biggest. The upcoming heist film from Edge of Tomorrow/ Mr & Mrs. Smith director, Doug Liman boasts a cast that stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor and then continues with an excellent ensemble featuring Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Ben Stiller, and Ben Kingsley.
In the film, Hathaway and Ejiofor play a couple on the verge of a breakup, but trapped together for two weeks of quarantine. We then get to follow them to their lowest lows and then to a rekindling of their romance as they bond over stealing a rare diamond.
One the one hand, this looks like it could be a fun heist movie. And, the supporting cast, who seems to be mainly zooming in their performances, are a great sign. On the other side of things, the last thing we want to watch right now are COVID stories. It will be interesting to see how audiences feel when Locked Down hits HBO Max on January 14th… just a day before Disney+ premieres Wandavision.
Just as they decide to separate, Linda (Anne Hathaway) and Paxton (Chiwetel Ejiofor) find life has other plans when they are stuck at home in a mandatory lockdown. Co-habitation is proving to be a challenge, but fueled by poetry and copious amounts of wine, it will bring them closer together in the most surprising way.
