There’s a good chance that we’ll get our first trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Super Bowl Sunday, but Vanity Fair just released a slew of pics from both in front of and behind the cameras to give us our best tease yet.
Along with the photos, there’s a ton of information about the series, some that fans will love, and some that they might find concerning. Chief among concerns for fans of the series is how closely they will stick to the source material. When discussing the topic with the showrunner JD Payne, he had this to say:
“We talked with the Tolkien estate. If you are true to the exact letter of the law, you are going to be telling a story in which your human characters are dying off every season because you’re jumping 200 years in time, and then you’re not meeting really big, important canon characters until season four. Look, there might be some fans who want us to do a documentary of Middle-earth, but we’re going to tell one story that unites all these things.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hits Prime video on September 2. New episodes will be released weekly.
