The first trailer has dropped for Luca, Pixar’s new film from the team that created Cocoa (Yay!) and Cars 3 (Ehhh?). In the new film, which is set in a small coastal village in Italy, we will follow the story of Luca, a boy with a secret… he’s actually a sea monster. While that might fly in normal Disney movies, this movie is set in a town where there is a deep hatred of sea monsters.

We know that by the end of the story, the town will come around in the same way that the people of Berk came around to dragons by the end of How to Train Your Dragon. Along the way, we’ll probably learn some lessons about being more open-minded, solve a major crisis, and because it’s Pixar, have at least one good cry.

Luca is set for release sometime in the Summer of 2021.

Disney and Pixar invite you to experience a summer like never before. Luca arrives June 2021. Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” “Cars 3”), “Luca” releases Summer 2021.
