Disney may be launching their own streaming service with Disney+, but they now also own 60% of Hulu and it seems like they plan on using it as the home for everything that is too dark for their family-friendly option. Hulu is already the home to Marvels Runaways and will soon also host several mature-rated animated series including: “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show and Marvel’s Howard The Duck. Now it has been announced that they will also host two new live-action series in the form of Ghostrider and Helstrom.
Variety is reporting that Gabriel Luna will reprise his role as Ghostrider/ Robbie Reyes in the new series, but that the story will have no connection to anything that happened in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD where the live action version of the character debuted. It will be interesting to see if they change his look or the special effects for his head to help make the distinction between the two shows. Check out the show announcements from the press release below:
Marvel’s Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is a quintessential antihero, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields. Marvel’s Ghost Rider is executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda, who will serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.
Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer in Marvel’s Helstrom. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills. Marvel’s Helstrom is executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski, who will serve as showrunner and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb.
Don’t be surprised if we eventually see Netflix series like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones find new life on Hulu in the near future.
