MGM has hired Josh Zetumer to pen the script for the upcoming “Robocop” reboot. Zetumer will work with Brazilian director Jose Padiha (Elite Squad, Bus 174) to develop the film.
Zetumer recently finished “Vale,” a supernatural action thriller and is currently working on a script for a “Dune” remake in addition to a fourth installment of “The Bourne Identity.” Both projects have stalled, which might explain why he’s open to scripting “Robocop.”
“Robocop” is still in very early development, but with the recent hype surrounding the Robocop statue in Detroit I’m sure the studio knows that a general interest still exist and it behooves them to put out a new film and jump start the franchise as soon as they can.
The new series is set for a two-episode premiere, June 4 on Disney+.
