The long-awaited Sandman series from Neil Gaiman and Netflix is going to get some love early next month during the Netflix Geekweeked celebration that starts on June 7th. However, as an early treat, DC announced some major casting news today via Twitter.
12 new roles have been announced today including Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park and Donna Preston as Desire and Despair, Joely Richardson as Ethel Cripps, David Thewlis as Dr. Destiny, Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, Stephen Fry as Gilbert, Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall, Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven, and Jenna Coleman as Lady Johanna Constantine.
The new cast will join a team that already includes Tom Sturridge as Dream, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Charles Dance as black magician Roderick Burgess, and Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeeve Bhaskar as Abel and Cain.
The 11-episode season is set to be based around the classic Vertigo comic arc, “Preludes and Nocturnes.” If they hold accurately to comic book there are three very important roles that have yet to be announced, John Constantine, Doctor Destiny, and Martian Manhunter.
