The Initial run of Brian K. Vaughn’s Runaways for Marvel still stands out as one of the best superhero series in recent memory, so I’ve been both excited and nervous about the idea of Hulu adapting the comic to a TV series. As of a few hours ago, we’ve got a new teaser for the show that at least makes it look like we will be getting a pretty faithful retelling of the team’s origin, which gives me some relief, but we don’t really get to see much in the way of effects or powers from the runaway teens themselves. We do however, get a good look at James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) as the leader of The Pride.
I think part of me isn’t going to relax until I see the Staff of One pop out of Nico’s chest.
“Runaways follows a group of six teenagers in the Marvel universe – Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes, Chase Stein, Alex Wilder, and Gertrude Yorkes – who discover that their parents are secretly members of a supervillain cabal called The Pride. After deciding they’re no longer safe in their own homes, the kids go on the run. In the midst of hiding from their elders, the teens learn about themselves and become a family of their own.”
