Wu Assassins is the kind of show that I would not have paid any attention to if I just read the log line – “ He’s on a mission to save Chinatown, even if it means killing his own father. Kung Fu meets sci-fi meets Asian street food in Wu Assassins. ” But, after watching the trailer I’m all in for the newest series from Netflix.
The premise is pretty simple. A young man is trying to live his life on the straight and narrow despite having a father who is the head of the Triads. Suddenly, he’s gifted with the power of 1,000 monks and given the task of killing the WU, five deadly people with supernatural powers they plan to unleash on the planet. At the top of this list of bad guys, his dad.
The cast meanwhile, is filled with some pretty great talent from across the small and large screen. The main cast of the show is made up of Iko Uwais, Katheryn Winnick, Byron Mann, Li Jun Li, Lawrence Kao, JuJu Chan, Lewis Tan, Celia Au, Tommy Flanagan and Mark Dacascos.
All 10 episodes of season one are set to drop on Netflix, August 8th.
Wu Assassins follows Kai Jin, a young Chinatown chef in present day San Francisco, as he becomes entangled with the Chinese Triad’s pursuit of deadly ancient powers known as the “Wu Xing.” After an encounter with a mystical spirit, Kai reluctantly becomes the Wu Assassin, using his enhanced martial arts skills to recover supernatural powers from five modern day criminals threatening to use them to destroy the world.
