With news from Peter Jackson that “The Hobbit” was still on track for a December 2011 debut, director Guillermo Del Toro follows up by adding that only three actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are returning.

So far we already know that Ian McKellan will reprise his roll as Gandalf, and that Del Toro cannot imagining anyone other than Andy Serkis as Gollum. So who will be the third?

Additionally, Del Toro says that production has not stopped, however until the scripts, budgets, and schedules for both movies have been turned in, Warner Bros. won’t give the greenlight. With production churning like a well oiled machine, this also means that we will be getting less and frequent updates.

However, Del Toro did promise that “…. I will drop in as much as possible, as always.”

And when he does, we’ll be there to report on it!

  1. The other one would be Hugo Weaving as Elrond. Possible fourth could be Cate Blanchett as Galadriel.
