Robert Zemeckis and Disney In Negotiations for Yellow Submarine Remake

Variety is reporting that Disney and Robert Zemeckis are in negotiations for a completely unnecessary remake of The Beatles, “Yellow Submarine.”

This new iteration, which will employ the now popular motion capture system that Zemeckis has used for The Polar Express and the “A Christmas Carol” is not even set in stone, but they are already setting a tentative release date to go with the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics on July 27 in London.

The storyline of the original took place in Pepperland, an undersea paradise protected by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. When the band is captured by the music-hating Blue Meanies, a soldier is sent to Liverpool to fetch the Fab Four, who hop in the submarine and save the day.

Key to the deal is Zemeckis’ ability to use a treasure trove of classic Beatles tunes, from the title song to “All Together Now,” “Baby You’re a Rich Man,” “All You Need Is Love,” “When I’m 64,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

We here at YBMW just have one question… why the heck would you mess with something that awesome in the first place?
