It’s still hard to believe that fans are finally getting the Obi-Wan Kenobi story starring Ewan McGregor that they’ve been asking for for years. Now we just have to hope that the powers that be can pull it off with the same quality and care that they recently brought to The Mandalorian. As the series draws closer to production, rumors are beginning to swirl, including this one from the people over at Making Star Wars.
The popular Star Wars fan-site is claiming that their sources say divisive prequel star, Jar-Jar binks will be crossing paths with Obi-Wan Kenobi at some point in the adventure. There are multiple reasons that we believe this rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but also a few that make us think it could be true. First, here’s why we doubt:
- Obi-Wan is supposedly going to take place on the desert planet of Tatooine. The Star Wars Aftermath novels place Jar-Jar back on Naboo. While it’s possible that he could have placed himself in exile, it’s hard to believe that a creature who lives under-water would move to a giant dust bowl.
- There’s no reason for it other than blatant fan service. So far, Mandalorian has shown a very story-driven thought pattern behind it. Given how well the formula has worked so far, it’s hard to imagine Disney would stray from it.
Why it could happen:
- As much as people like to make fun of Jar Jar, the kids who grew up with the prequels as their first Star Wars experience love him.
- Ahmed Best has been slated to host a new Disney+ Star Wars trivia show. We can’t think of a better way to bring him and his character into the public eye again than with a heavily publicized cameo in a highly-anticipated Star Wars story.
