I’m not sure that there are any Star Wars stories that have been dangled before the eyes of hungry fans more than that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. More than any other potential Star Wars spin-off film, fans have been clamoring for a movie that tells the tale of Obi-Wan’s life between the events of Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. It even looked like the film was going to happen, with Ewan McGregor as the lead, until Solo: A Star Wars Story became the first film in the history of the franchise to actually lose money.
Fast forward to now, we’ve got Disney+ on the horizon and we know of at least two Star Wars series that are definitely happening on the network between The Mandalorian and the Cassian Andor prequel series. Now, Making Star Wars is reporting that the Obi-Wan film may well live on, but as a limited series on the upcoming Disney Streaming network and not as a film.
According to the rumor, we could be looking at a series that could be as many as six episodes. This would be the potential equivalent of a full cinematic trilogy’s worth of screen time. Making Star Wars also reported that Ewan McGregor “remains on board the project regardless of what form it takes.” Does this mean that we’ll get the star on-board for 6 hours of Obi-Wan on the small screen?
As far as Star Wars TV rumors go, this one is a lot more interesting than yesterday’s nonsense about a Rose Tico series.
