To say that a movie for Dark Horse Comic’s The Goon has been a long time coming would be an understatement, at least for fan’s who have been dreaming of this moment for years. That’s probably what spurred the type of interesting and absurd panel that will undoubtedly go down in Comic Con History. the film, which is being written and scripted by the character’s creator, Eric Powell, and produced by David Fincher is now set up to totally amazing viewers.
There were clips, there were laughs, and there was a weird kid in a Luchador outfit who sounded like he was inhaling scotch guard or something. His sounds and mumblings were hilarious. Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon were there moderating the panel in character, but oddly there’s been no mention of them being involved in the movie at all.
During the panel, two clips were shown and they look sweet. While the movie hasn’t been greenlit or any actors formally signed, Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown have both shown interest in playing the voices of Frankie and the Goon respectively and their voices were the ones used in the clip.
Clip #1: A PSA from the Goon telling you how to deal with a zombie. “Pick up a hammer or a large wrench, maybe a rusty mailbox and…bash the fucker’s head in!”
Clip #2: Frankie at a bar with a zombie complaining about a drink. Its dark, funny, and definitely not for the kiddies.
Powell insists that there’s nothing in the comic that can’t be done in the film and he’s hoping for a PG 13 rating. Blur Studios will be animating the project and Fincher is producing, but there’s no Director on the project as of yet.
