It’s already a foregone conclusion that we’ll be getting news of The Punisher’s cancellation on Netflix, but that news probably won’t come until a couple of weeks after season 2 premiers. According to this new teaser drop, that premier will happen sometime this month. However, The North African/ Middle East branches of Netflix seem to be narrowing that down to a specific date of January 19th. Either way, we will be seeing Frank Castle kicking butt by the end of the month.
In the teaser, we see Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, tearing up his recently earned Federal pardon. We are pretty sure that he could just ask for another copy, or that there is at least a digital record of it, but we get the symbolism. What we don’t have is any actual footage, though we suspect that will change by the end of the week. The big question is if we’ll get to see Ben Barnes as Jigsaw before the show drops or if they hold it back until then. It will also be interesting to see how fans react to the fact that Barnes’ character (Billy Russo) will not actually be using the name Jigsaw in the show.
While there’s solid hope that Disney Plus will revisit some of these Street-level heroes on their new network, it is hard to imagine a Disney-owned network ever letting a Punisher series be what it needs to be. So, if you want it to happen, let Disney know by watching this new season. Otherwise, this is probably the last time you’ll ever see Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle.
