Following yesterday’s announcement that director Bryan Singer would be returning to the X-Men, Heat Vision is reporting that Jamie Moss (Street Kings) has be hired to pen the script. Moreover, Variety caught up with Singer for more details on the plot. This is what he had to say:
“This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn. There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from ‘X-Men’ will figure into the plot, though I don’t want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.”
“X-Men: First Class” will be based off the Marvel Comic miniseries by Jeff Parker which follows the early years of the X-Men and before the rise of mutants at the public conscious level. According to HV, the story will center around the first meeting between Charles Xavier and Magneto and their involvement in creating the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.
While the script is still in its very early stages, its expected that Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman and Angel will make their appearance. New characters will also be created and introduced to the mythos.
“X-Men: First Class” isn’t expected until 2011. Meanwhile Singer will be working on “Jack the Giant Killer.”
