Sony’s 7-Year Spider-man Movie And TV Plan

To say that Sony’s plan for Spider-man has been in flux over the last few years is an understatement. Gone are things like the Black Cat/ Silver Sable movie and now we are looking at a sequel to Venom, a Morbius film, and nobody knows how many more Tom Holland and animated Miles Morales films.

In a new interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra and Sony Television chairman Mike Hopkins told reporters that they’ve already mapped out the next seven or eight years of Spider-Plans. They went on to specify that it’s not just the big screen that they’re eying, but the small screen as well.

“Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop,” explains Vinciquerra.

As far as what they were willing to divulge, it wasn’t much, but it should make fans of the Wall-Crawler pretty happy.

“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP. So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto…I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to working with a partner to make that happen.”

There’s no question that Inter The Spider-Verse and the Tom Holland Spider-Man re-launch have been huge successes, but Venom (despite big earnings) met mixed reviews and a lot of fans are skeptical about the idea of Jared Leto as Morbius after what many consider to be the worst version of The Joker to ever find its way to the screen. Now the question is, will Sony focus more on quantity, or will they push out as much Spider-Man content as they can until they’ve bled him dry and worn out their welcome?
