There have been a lot of rumors going back and forth about the chances of Sony and Disney reconciling to bring Spider-Man back to the MCU, but now none of that matters, because official word has come down that our favorite wall-crawler is back where he belongs! News just broke that a deal has been made for Kevin Feige to produce the next Spider-Man film in 2021 and for the character to continue to appear for at least one more Marvel film to be named at a later date. While this sounds like it might be a more a temporary reprieve than a complete agreement, it’s a start down a path that can hopefully continue in future years, or at least until the Tom Holland run on the character is complete.
Here’s what Feige had to say about it:
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
There are some questions left on the table. We currently don’t know if Sony can use Spider-Man in films like Morbius or Venom 2. We also don’t know if the rumors of Venom possibly appearing in an MCU film have any truth to them.
