While I have some doubts about the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery series from CBS ever actually seeing the light of day, I have to give them credit on putting together a really interesting cast. The show already has r Sonequa Martin-Green in the lead role, as well as James Frain (Sarek), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets), Michelle Yeoh (Starfleet Captain Georgiou), and Shazad Latif as a Klingon officer named Kol and now it can claim Rainn Wilson (Super/ The Office) as one of it’s notable baddies.
If the name of Harry Mudd sounds familiar, it’s because he goes all the way back to the 1960’s original Star Trek series. Originally plated by Roger C. Carmel, Mudd is a “charismatic interstellar con-man”. As this new show is set in the “Prime” timeline (same timeline as the original series), it means that Wilson be playing a younger version of the character that previously went up against Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise.
The big question is when, or if the show will see release. It was originally slated to premier last month, but it only just started production in the last few weeks. Making matters even more complicated is that CBS is planning on releasing it exclusively on their online subscriber service, the same place where they are currently wasting the surprisingly well-written Good Wife spin-off, The Good Fight.
