The JJ Abrams Star Trek universe is still out there, somewhere in space, and deep in development hell. The long-rumored 4th film in the franchise is still in active development according to Paramount, but it looks like we might have a new film before that one becomes a reality.
Deadline is reporting that a new film is in development that will take place decades before the JJ Abrams films. Directing the film will by Andor’s Toby Haynes and Seth Grahame-Smith will be writing the script.
Honestly, this sounds like they are just moving forward with the rumors to make a film focused around Kirk’s Dad who was played by Chris Hemsworth in the first movie.
With Paramount’s future ownership currently in question, it will be interesting to see whether or not this film actually happens.
