It takes more than being chopped in two to keep some bad guys down! Cartoon Network’s highly popular Star Wars The Clone Wars series has just announced this morning that they will be bringing back what might be the only cool character from Star Episode 1. No, not Qui Gon… He was dumb. I’m talking about
Darth Freakin Maul.
It seems kind of silly that they’d bring Maul Back. After all, they did cut the guy in half and throw his body down a bottomless hole. Even the show’s director admits that it is more than a little surprising for him.
“I found it funny in The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul got cut in half,” Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni says. “I thought George was definitively saying to the fans, ‘There’s no way this character is coming back. This is not a Boba Fett/Sarlacc Pit situation where, because of fan love, Boba gets out of that thing any number of ways.’ Fast-forward ten-years, and I’m the one to bring Maul back.”
So, how will they bring him back? We won’t really know until spring of 2012, but we can only hope that he comes back looking like he did in the Dark Horse alternate universe story. In that comic book, Maul is brought back and give a set of black robotic legs similar to those on General Greivious. It’s pretty sweet.
