While all of this is officially released and not leaked, it’s information that I’d have rather not known going into the film, so consider this sort of a spoiler warning for anyone who want to go into Star Wars: The Last Jedi, cold.

Now that we are passed that, let’s talk about this massive Entertainment Weekly cover story that just came out. There are a ton of new pics, but I’m going to include those in the next post so people can see pics without all the details I’m going to talk about here. There’s also a ton of details about the characters and what’s going on when we find them in the story.

Let’s start out with the big question… what the hell is up with Luke?
Well, it turns out that one of the reasons we didn’t see more than we did at the end of The Force Awakens is that the reception Rey will be getting isn’t exactly the warm welcome that you might expect. It turns out that he’s on the island because of anger and guilt that he feels over the mistake of thinking that his nephew, Kylo Ren/ Ben Solo (Adam Driver), was the chosen one, as Hamill points out in the interview:

“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character,” Hamill says. “And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

With that mindset as the backdrop, it’s no wonder he says that it’s time for the Jedi Order to come to an end. Though, imagine how that mindset effect’s Daisy Ridley’s Rey, who says:

’Oh my God, this other man that I lost within a couple days was somewhat of a father figure. Now he’s gone, and instead I’m with this grumpy guy on an island who doesn’t want me here.’”

So, that leads us to our next question… what’s going on with Finn?

When we last left Finn, he was in a medically induced coma, having taken a Light Saber to the spine. When we find him in Last Jedi, he’ll be in pain and looking for a way out of the Resistance.

“It got really real for him,” Boyega tells EW. “And he just wants to get away and not be involved. His intention in the first place was to go to the Outer Rim. He was always brought back [in The Force Awakens,], but this is his chance to get away and perhaps find Rey and go off together. He’s trying to do that at first.”

When we first meet his main cohort for the film, Kelly Marie Tran’s “Rose,” She sees him as he had described himself in the last film to Han Solo. He’s a big deal, and he’s one of the people that inspired her to join the resistance.

AS we’ve reported in the past, Finn and Rose will be heading off to the Casino Planet of Canto Blight on a big mission. Finn will have to decide if he wants to be the hero, and as Tran pointed out in the interview, she’s here to help him make the right decision.

So that leaves one big question… will we finally find out who is Rey’s Parents?
Probably not, but we will find out a lot about her past. We’ll find out if Luke actually knows her, where she comes from, and why she was sent to Jakkuu.
