Yesterday, we reported that Nathan Fillion was in talks to re-team with James Gunn for the upcoming Suicide Squad reboot over at Warner Bros. Now there’s word from Deadline that That Marvel golden boy director, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, Jojo Rabbit) is also in talks to join the cast of the film in an unnamed role.

Waititi is known for revitalizing the Thor franchise with his work on Thor: Ragnarok. He’s currently working on bring the first female version of Thor to the film with Thor: Love and Thunder while also preparing his WWII satire, Jojo Rabbit starring Scarlet Johansson (and himself as Hitler) for release on October 18th.

Deadline is reporting that the first table read for Suicide Squad 2 is set for Sept. 11 with production starting Sept. 23 and a planned Aug. 6, 2021 release.

If he signs on, he’ll be joining Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Flula Borg, Steve Agee (King Shark), and Nathan Fillion.
