There’s been rumblings about the Adult Swim animated series The Boondocks making a comeback with some sort of reboot or sequel series for a while, but now it’s official. The iconic cartoon based on Aaron McGruder’s critically acclaimed comic strip is coming back for at least two more seasons. That said, don’t expect the same show that you got when the series first aired more than 10 years ago. The world is a different place now and McGruder plans to use it as material as he preps for the two season order on HBO Max, the new home of the series. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
