James Gunn is celebrating the upcoming release of The Suicide Squad, but very soon, he’ll be getting down to business on The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Also, it’s been previously announced that he’ll be shooting the Disney+ special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special at the same time. Unlike the Star Wars Holiday special, which is sadly not canon to its universe, we are now learning from Gunn that this special will absolutely be part of the MCU and it is something that you should definitely watch BEFORE you see Vol. 3. Here’s what the director said in a recent interview with Collider.
“It’s in-canon. It’s about the Guardians, you’re gonna learn stuff that you need to learn before Volume 3, and it’s great I’m really happy with it. I’m gonna film it at the same time as the movie. I’m using a lot of the same sets, the same actors obviously, so we’re filming simultaneously with the film but it’s gonna have to be edited and finished sooner.”
