The first teaser for Amazon Prime’s Billion dollar+ The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series has now dropped and… it’s ok? The original LOTR saga was one of the true perfect trilogies in film history. The Hobbit films, while serviceable, were OK. After last week’s first look images at the new series, and quotes coming out from showrunners about how they are taking liberties with the source material to tell their own take on the story, this first trailer comes off with a generic fantasy series vibe more than anything that fans would look to and scream “Tolkien.”
In the end, this is just a teaser. We don’t know a lot of the story details, and we’ve only now seen around 60 seconds of footage for a series that is guaranteed to run for 5 seasons. We are hoping for the best. As of right now, we are just expecting something OK.
A new legend begins this fall. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, only on Prime Video Sept 2, 2022. #LOTRonPrime #LOTR #LOTRROP — About “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
