The Tomorrow War wasn’t a great movie, but it was a fun little flick to watch on a rainy weekend afternoon, as long as you don’t try to figure out the myriad of time paradoxes the film presents. In the film, Chris Pratt is enlisted to travel into the future to help fight an alien invasion that means the end of humanity in less than 30 years. We won’t spoil the film for you, but we didn’t think it really needed or was set up for a sequel. But, the thing about time travel movies, is that as long as you can travel in time, you can create a reason to come back again for more shenanigans. That seems to be exactly what’s happening according to a new report from Deadline.
When Paramount sold this movie to Amazon for $200 million, they were hoping to stave off their losses, but with a viewer score of 4.5/5 and strong buzz, Prime might have the last laugh as they are taking the movie and turning it into a new franchise for the streamer.
The Tomorrow War stars Pratt along with Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, and J.K. Simmons. A big part of what made this film actually work was the performances from the cast. We can only hope they bring as much of them back as possible. We have a few theories as to what the plot for a sequel could be, but listing them here would mean major spoilers for the first film. We’ll have new updates for you as they come.
