The creator, executive producer and director of AMC’s zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” Frank Darabont, has reportedly stepped down from acting as the showrunner of the series. This comes days after Darabont was in attendance the Walking Dead Panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
According to Deadline, Darabont will stay on the show in some capacity. His reason for stepping down is related to the commitment needed to run the series, which he has grown tired of. It is not known if exec producer Glen Mazzara (The Shield) will move up to act as showrunner. Or if someone else will steup to fill the role.
Fans of the hit series shouldn’t worried too much however, as it won’t affect production which continues as scheduled. Currently it’s filming its second season in Georgia.
Season two of “The Walking Dead” is set to premiere October 16th, 2011.
