When The Whale first screened at the Venice Film Festival in October, the film, and Brendan Fraser, received a six-minute standing ovation. Now the rest of the world is getting their first peek at the film from a 60-second trailer that A24 just put out.

The film, which stars Brendan Fraser as an obese and reclusive English teacher trying to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption has been universally loved by anyone that has been lucky enough to attend one of its screenings. There has already been a lot of buzz surrounding Fraser’s performance and it sounds should definitely be up for at least an Oscar nomination for his role.

As a director, Darren Aronofsky has definitely had some hits and misses. Pi and Requiem for A Dream, The Wrestler, and The Fighter put him on the map as a fantastic director, but films like Jennifer Lawrence’s Mother, Noah, and The Fountain have been more than a little divisive with audiences and critics.

From director Darren Aronofsky and starring Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, and Hong Chau. THE WHALE – Only In Theaters This December.
