12 months ago, there were a lot of people who didn’t think anyone would ever let Josh Trank behind a camera again after the crapfest that was The Fantastic Four. Not only is Trank back behind the camera, but he’s got Tom Hardy by his side, as the two have set off to a new Al Capone Biopic titled: Fonzo.

We don’t know too much about the movie yet, just that Trank has both written the script and plans to direct, and that Hardy will be starring as the iconic gangster, Al Capone. The most interesting thing here is how much baggage there is behind the director. As divisive as he is, it’s hard to believe that this is only his third film. And, say what you will about F4, but Chronicle was a great movie that launched the careers of both Michael B Jordan and dane dehaan.

From a story perspective, we can expect Fonzo to pick up the story of Al Capone around the age of 47, after he’s already spent 10 years in prison and is suffering from dementia. SO… musical comedy?

Nah, as great as that would be, it looks like it’s going to be a more cerebral film about him coming to terms with his brutal behavior from years past through a series of foggy flash backs.

There’s currently no date set for release.
