It’s still a little hard to imagine a bigger studio doing a reboot of the classic Troma film, The Toxic Avenger, but it’s happening. Toxie is coming back to the big screen via Legendary, in association with Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman. Today, Variety is reporting that Macon Blair has been tapped to both write and direct the film. While Blair has been acting for several years, his only directing/ writing credit is for Elijah Wood’s I Don’t Feel at Home in This World.
Blair isn’t the first actor to be attached to the film. A Toxic Avenger reboot has been in in the works since 2010 when Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink was slated to helm the film. When it circled back around in 2016, Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon was attached to the movie.
