For a while, it was assumed that Chaos Walking, starring Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, and Mads Mikkelson would never see the light of day. The film was deemed by many insiders to be unwatchable. But, when film production gets shut down for six months, you need meat to feed the beast, so now audiences will get to judge whether or not this film is worth watching.
the movie has a lot going for it. It’s based on a popular series of YA Novels, it’s directed by Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne franchise director, Doug Liman, and it has a cast that not only includes the talent we’ve also mentioned but also features Nick Jonas, Cynthia Erivo, Demian Bichir, David Oyelowo Ray McKinnon, Óscar Jaenada and Kurt Sutter.
The real problem appears to be in the film’s concept and how it could be brought to film well. In the dystopian future where this story takes place, all living beings can see each other’s thoughts in a visual cloud of sound and sights call Noise. That means you not only have to deal with everyone’s dialogue but visualizing everyone’s thoughts as well. Even in the trailer, this looks more than a little distracting. It is not all that surprising that the film, which was shot all the way back in 2017, had to go through major re-shoots and had never seemed to make it onto the release schedule. Well, now it’s coming, and on January 22, we’ll all have a chance to see if this movie is good, or if it was better off left on the shelves.
n the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets. From the director of The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow and based on the best-selling novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland star with Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter, and David Oyelowo in Chaos Walking. Chaos Walking is rated PG-13 and is scheduled to open in 2021.
