Universal Monster’s ‘Dark Universe’ To Include Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Tom Cruise And More

With The Mummy set to hit theaters shortly, Universal Studios is finally unveiling their grand plan for a film universe that brings all of their classic monsters back together. Called the “Dark Universe”, the series of big budget movies will bring classic monsters like The Mummy, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and others together for a series of solo movies that will eventually overlap.

First up is The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, and featuring Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde. After that, we’ll be getting ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ in February 2019, which will be directed by Harry Potter/ Beauty And The Beast Director, Bill Condon.

Also announced today was that Johnny Depp is set to play The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem will play Frankenstein. It is a safe bet that Crowe will probably be back, at least in the role of the “Nick Fury” of the universe, bringing everyone together at some point.

On the one hand, the Universal monsters are great characters that deserve a new introduction to this generation. On the other, it remains to see whether this new “universe” will work out or just feel forced.
