Venom wasn’t what we’d call a good movie, but it was a fun movie. It harkened back to the darker superhero movies of the 90s like Sam Raimi’s Darkman. It didn’t help us that Upgrade, a movie with a very similar concept, a very similar to Tom Hardy looking actor (Logan Marshal Green), and a better execution came out right around the same time.
Well, a couple of years have passed and we aren’t going to be getting an Upgrade 2, but Venom: Let There Be Carnage is on the way. Look. We’re rooting for this movie. We like Tom Hardy, We like Woody Harrelson. We love that this could be a major break for Andy Serkis as a director. We are just having trouble finding anything good to say about this trailer other than it looks like the film might have a decent sense of humor, and the Carnage CGI looks solid.
This is just the first trailer. There will be a lot more to come before Venom 2 hits theaters later this year. Also, we’re happy to admit that we could be totally off-base here and Let There Be Carnage could be awesome. From the trailer, though, it doesn’t even look like it knows what kind of movie it wants to be.
We missed you… so much. Sink your teeth into the new #Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer. Only in theaters September 24
