Melissa Benoist is getting ready to retire her cape as the CW’s Supergirl when the TV series comes to an end this season. Today, The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, took to Instagram to introduce the world to the next Supergirl to take to the big screen, Young and The Restless actress, Sasha Calle.

Muschetti told Deadline: “I saw more than four hundred auditions. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”

According to the report, the actors auditioning for the role had no idea they were trying out for the part of Supergirl. Due to Covid, all auditions, including Calle’s chemistry read with Ezra Miller were done over Zoom.

The Flash, which stars Miller a The Flash and Michael Keaton as Batman is allegedly set to begin production soon… but they’ve been saying that for a very long time.

The last time Supergirl was seen on the big screen was in the 1984 Supergirl film, starring Helen Slater. Slater currently plays Supergirl’s mom on the CW series as well as the voice of Martha Kent on DC Super Hero Girls. In an interesting connection, Slater has also done a stint on The Young and The Restless when she played Dr. Chiverton on the series in 2014.
