Despite the fact that The Dark Knight is set for a Tuesday DVD and Blue-Ray Disc release, Warner Bros is still planning on re-releasing The Dark Knight to theaters come January 23.
This will be a nationwide launch and is estimated to the only the fourth film ever to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office according to Variety. Domestically, the film has made roughly $530 million domestically and $466 million overseas. Currently only Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest have topped the $1 billion mark.
Dan Fellman, president of Warner’s domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. “We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen,” he added.
