FOX is releasing a bunch of news about shifting movie release dates (Dark Phoenix is being pushed till next summer, Alita: Battle Engine is moving from December Dark Phoenix’s Valentine’s Day Slot, and Gambit is being pushed to 2020). But, amid all those releases is the announcement that a new Deadpool film will be grabbing the old Alita: Battle Angel slot and getting released on December 21st. So, what is it?

FOX isn’t saying. In their tweet that announced the movie, it just suggested that we try to guess what it could be. Some of the trade publications think that it’s just a PG-13 re-cut of Deadpool 2. Others think that it could be a super-cut of the first two movies, with Ryan Reynolds Narrating in the style of The Princess Bride. It’s hard to imagine that they had the time to film a whole other movie and have it not slip out, but it’s going to be interesting to see if there’s any mention of it at NYCC.

One thing is for sure. If it’s just a PG-13 cut of the movie that was in theaters a few months ago, it isn’t going to go over well with die hards. Many are already complaining that a re-cut would just be a pointless money grab. We don’t know if that’s true, but we also aren’t sure that Deadpool 2 would still be as fun as it was at release if you take out all the R-rated bits.
