There was not a lot of time between the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Based on a new interview with John Boyega, that is going to change when it comes to how much time will pass between The Last Jedi and Episode IX.
Many fans have been theorizing that Disney would use a time jump to give themselves a way to kill off Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia instead of having to explain her absence or possibly re-cast her. It would also give Rey a chance to start building up new Jedis with those books that she snatched from the temple on Ach-To. In a new interview with Yahoo Finance, John Boyega (Finn) let an interesting tidbit drop about the next movie in the franchise that definitely makes it sound like this is the path Disney, Lucasfilm, and JJ Abrams have chosen.
“I can’t wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why.”
Star Wars Episode IX is set for release on December 20th, 2019.
