FX Show’s Vinyl Jam A Huge Success

Hi all,

As many of you might have noticed, we’ve had a lot of mentions regarding the FX show on YouBentMyWookie recently. Some of us here were lucky enough to be involved in certain aspects fo the show and now that we’ve gotten a chance to catch up on our sleep its time to talk about the show. Over the next few days you’ll get the full round up FX and some of the things that make it a really cool show for people who love collectibles, art, celebrities, and hot women in bikinis.

First up is the Vinyl Jam. For the last few years, FX has done an annual vinyl customization event that breaks the mold compared to others that have been done before it. While most custom events give artists 2-6 months to build, cut, paint, glue and whatever else they can think of to their custom, the vinyl jam gives people 90 minutes in a group setting where world famous artists can customize a vinyl toy along side regular attendees to the event. The best part is that it is all for a good cause. In the next few days we’ll be announcing a week long ebay auction of all the customs to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Before we dive into all the great customs, I want to take a minute to thank two awesome companies. First, Mezco. They stepped up and provided us with very rare Mez-Its. These 6 inch figures will never be available to the public as blanks and are getting ready to make their way to market in all manner of licensed awesomeness from the company, but they were cool enough to actually pull pieces off the production line and send them to the FX show so they could be used for the event.

Also, I want to thank Sam Flax, a great art supply company who donated pretty much all the art supplies for this year’s event.

The event on the whole was amazing. little kids were doing customs right next to icons like Bill Tucci and Ruben Procopio. Some of the entries were highly technical and very detailed and some, like the work of Franco and Art Baltazar were fun and reminiscent of the comics that they draw.

The canvas of the Mez-Its was quickly turned into everything from Hellboy to Sack Boy, from the Rocketeer to the Thing, from zombies to Balrogs. Everyone had a lot of fun and the creations were truly amazing. Check out the gallery below and stay tuned for updates on the charity auction that will be launching in a few days.
