There is plenty of Thundercats product coming out right now from the hard hero statues to the culture shock premium format statue from Jerry Macaluso, but there is something special about this statue from icon heroes. While I love the work Jerry did on his lion o, it looks more Ike comic book lion o than the cartoon version. also, while I really love the statues from hard hero, that’s a huge shelf space investment. At around six inches a piece, this line is big enough to appreciate, and small enough to justify buying all of them… and hopefully there will be a lot of them!
Now, lets get down to business and talk about Lion-O . First off, this statue is everything I wanted it to be and more. It comes off way better in person than it did in the original press images. The likeness is spot on from the old cartoon and you can really tell that there was a lot of attention to detail put into this statue.
Paint:
Great job here. The paint application is crisp and the colors are spot on. they tackle some pretty small details with the paint here on the base and on the Eye of Thundera. I’ve seen a lot of other companies really pooch things up by going over the lines, but I can’t see any sign of sloppiness here.
If there is any complaint on the sculpt it would be in how the sword and hand come together. It looks great, but it is a pretty loose fit. I would have liked to have seen the blade lock in place a bit better so that it was easier to set up the sword at the angle you wanted.
All in all, this is a great start to what I’m hoping will be a long line of great Thundercats statues.
