We’ve all seen medical dramas where the patient has a rare brain tumor. Sometimes those tumors can be as large as a softball. Well, it turns out that real life is way freakier than anything you’ve seen on Grey’s Anatomy. Over the last three years, Santlal Pal, a shopkeeper from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India, has developed a 1.8 kilogram tumor that almost looks like it could be the world’s most epic top-knot. Along with being a massive pain in the neck (literally), the tumor had also caused Santal to go blind as it expanded.
On February 14th, doctors were able to surgically remove the growth. When it was complete, they placed him in a medically induced coma for three days to protect brain function and let his body begin healing. Today, doctors have announced that the surgery was successful. They are still testing the mass to determine if it was malignant. Also, Pal’s sight has not yet returned, but doctors are optimistic that it will as the swelling in his head continues to recede.
