Have you ever wondered if the skin color of Disney Princesses had an effect on how much money was earned in Merchandise sales by each one? Chances are you haven’t. I know I haven’t. Jody Sieradzki did.
She decided to analyze the total number of ebay sales by value of Disney princesses’ merchandise with their skin tone and hair color.
While the data is sound (see the chart), the conclusions seem to be kind of BS. With the exception of Jasmine, the other non-white princesses come from Disney films that did not fare as well in the box office. You just don’t hear people talking about Pocahontas or The Frog Prince in the same way that you hear people talk about Cinderella, Little Mermaid, or even Frozen.
