Scientists Accidentally Find New Alzheimer’s Treatment

Who knew that the best way to find new treatments for Alzheimer’s was to try and cure Diabetes? That’s what just happened at Lancaster university where they were testing a new drug on diabetes patients and found that it was able to significantly reverse memory loss. As a result, they are now testing the new drug on neurodegenerative disorders.

This particular type of drug is known as a triple receptor drug and it is special for its ability to guard against degeneration while also promoting growth of new tissue. Along with improved memory in mice, trials are showing that the tests are producing a decrease in chronic inflammation and amyloid plaques in the brain, which have been linked to the development of Alzheimer’s in people.

While studies are still in the early stages, this is the first major development in Alzheimer’s treatment over the last fifteen years.
