The Hunger Games Hits #3 On Most Requested Book to Be Banned List

It is quite possible that some people have so much free time on their hands that they’ve managed to finally figure out the physics involved in shoving their own heads up their asses, at least that is what the list below would have me believe.

Censorship is nothing new. Hell, even banning books is a tradition here in the US. Every year up tight people make numerous requests to libraries and schools to ban books that they deem offensive for any number of ridiculous reasons. The point is, they are offended, so you must be shielded from the books they are too ignorant to understand are just pieces of fiction.

This week is Banned Books Week. The fact that such a thing has to exist is insane, but such is the state of things. Each year, the American Library Association holds BBA to bring attention to censorship and the top ten book most requested to be banned in the US.

The good news is that some of the classics like Huck Finn and Catcher in the Rye have fallen off the list this year. The stupid thing is that The Hunger Games is #3.

OK… So, The Hunger Games should be banned, but Fifty Shades Of Grey doesn’t make the list?

Here’s the full list of the most requested books to be banned for 2012:

Reasons: nudity; sex education; sexually explicit; unsuited to age group

5. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie
Reasons: offensive language; racism; religious viewpoint; sexually explicit; unsuited to age group

6. Alice (series), by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Reasons: nudity; offensive language; religious viewpoint

7. Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley
